OLD OKANAGAN LAKE BRIDGE, also known as KELOWNA FLOATING BRIDGE
The 7/8 mile long OKANAGAN BRIDGE was officially opened by Her Highness Princess Margaret on July 19,1958; gas was 7cts/l, and Kelowna counted 7000 people at the time!

This bridge was - with its total length and 2100' - 650m of each Ponton for a long time the longest Floating Bridge in the world. The part between the towers lifted vertically, to allow passage for taller ships!
8x12 B&W Old Bridge Ready to go P5160978
It was replaced by the 5 lane William R. Bennett Bridge, which was opened on June 25, 2008, almost exactly 50 years later. Plans for a new wider bridge for the ever increasing traffic into Kelowna are already on the drawing boards!
